In Treatment

Well I had my class yesterday. It was long and lecture filled. But several things made sense to me.

One being that it is ok to be dysfunctional....you will still be able to help people. Scare isn't it? Second, we learned the importance of finding out how the people in your life express love and receive love. this is especially important in marriage. Let's say the wife feels love when her husband buys her flowers. But the husband feels like he is expressing his love to her by scraping off the windshield every morning. The wife gets frustrated and hurt that her husband isn't showing her love. While the husband is not sure why his wife keeps saying why don't you love me. This can lead to cycle of frustration, lonilness and annoyance. Communication is the key.

So last night I came home to my wonderful (but loud) family. It was great to see them after a long day of acadamia. I tried some techniques of therapy on my husband...he didn't buy it :-). Tom had a gig last night with his band so he left after dinner.

I started the laundry mountain that has become our living room. I love being home alone at night, doing laundry, the kids are in bed and it is me time. I also love to do laundry when there is a good show on. I was flipping through the many channels (digital comcast). Could not find one show. I was bumming and had thoughts of going to bed. Then I turned on "On Demand". I am so glad I did. There was a show on HBO called "In Treatment" It is about a psychotherapist and his treatment sessions. I LOVE THIS SHOW. It is very accurate and I actually can see techniques I learned in class being applied. It had transference, countertransference. I was in heaven!

I am excited to become a therapist. I love to help others and try to figure out what makes people tick.

So today is the super bowl and I am excited to watch the commercials :-) That's it. not the game.

Oh the food will help too :-)

Have a great day and see you on the flip side :-)
